One day last month I stumbled upon an image of a girl on Instagram that made me look twice and inspired two pieces of art I put created especially for my exhibition in London. Her name is Veronica Campbell (otherwise known as Agent V) and has a ton of followers over the web who love her unique, quirky, geek girl look. And let's face it...she's sexy as fuck! I love her colorful POP ART look and her simple sexy style. We at DESPOP wanted to know more so we asked her if she'd open the doors on what she's all about in this quick fire interview.
What got you into comic books?
When I was little girl various members of my family would buy me everything Archie Comics because I was named after Veronica Lodge. Gradually through the years I started accumulating other comics that would be given to me on Birthday’s or Christmas. Everyone assumed I would eventually grow out comics at a certain age, they were wrong.
Name 3 people you admire in comics.
*Bonus* Grant Morrison
What were your dreams as a child?
I had two dreams as a kid. The first dream was that I wanted to work in comics somehow. I remember reading how Stan Lee started out as an assistant at Timely Comics getting lunches and erasing the pencil from finished pages and stuff and thought, “I could do that!” The second dream was wanting to be a voice actor. I would sit there and watch cartoons and mimic the characters all the time. Drove my family absolutely crazy. Once I found out who Tara Strong was I had a new hero.
Both Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark ask you to go to a Red Carpet event on the same night. Who would you go with?
I’m actually quite the homebody so I would have to pick Bruce Wayne. Sure he can be a little dull, but that’s more my pace! I don’t drink and I’m not much of a party person. I feel like I would be asking for trouble with Tony. UNLESS we are talking about Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark… Who can say no to him!?
If you could have any comic artist sit and tattoo on your body who would it be and what would you want them to design?
Bruce Timm!!! I would want a custom Joker and Harley Quinn tattoo! That would be a dream!
Who is your celebrity crush?
Jason Schwartzman and Kat Dennings
What is your favorite pig-out food?
Chili cheese fries or Pie…I will eat anything if its in pie form.
New 52? Genius decision or missed opportunity?
I was initially excited for the New 52. I bought the first 3 issues of every series when it came out. I wasn’t an immediate fan. I bought a few titles later on when the books came out and ended up enjoying Batman, Batwoman, and Swamp Thing. When I saw the art for Harley Quinn #1 I knew I was going to be an immediate fan. Amanda Conner is one of my favorite artists and her take on Harley is absolutely amazing.
Spend time with my loved ones pigging out on food I love while watching various movies and TV series. Wait…I do that every Friday haha.
"What song best describes you?
The Notwist – One with the freaks
Warner Bros Characters or Disney Characters?
Disney. I have to go with Disney on this.
Marvel or DC?
Oh man. I think I have to go with Marvel.
Name your favorite Superhero and Super villain and why?
This was the hardest question to answer. Superhero I would have to go with Nightcrawler. I love that fuzzy blue elf! He’s always been my favorite X-Men. I love that he’s such a happy guy and does a lot of practical jokes. He stays true to his faith. Also, the fact that he likes pirates is adorable. Lets not forgot in 1985’s Nightcrawler 1-4 mini series he actually got to be a stowaway on Captain Long John McGurk’s ship and went on adventures.
Villain I would have to go with the Joker. Isn’t that everyone’s answer!? I’ve been fond of him since I was a kid and would watch Burton’s Batman movie over and over again. He’s such a complicated character. Pure evil but you have to love the guy! It’s been great to see everyone’s different take on him through the years. Personally Mark Hamill will always be THE Joker to me. That voice sends shivers down my spine and I love it. He has so many good books. The Killing Joke is positively amazing. I’ll never get tired of reading it. Heath Ledger’s take on him in the movie was a shock in the best way possible. He brought a different take to the character and it was amazing and worked so well. He did good.
What is your most treasured comic book and why?
1946 Batman #37. I remember finding it in a junk pile in the garage at a relative’s house. I was around 4 or 5 at the time and was used to only getting Archie or Wonder Woman comics. I stared at the pages and made out what little words I could. I was so intrigued by the comic. The Joker made a Jokermobile and Joker signal. Joker steals the Batmobile and Batman has to use the Jokermobile to hunt him down. Such a silly comic. It made me realize that just because I’m a girl, doesn’t mean I have to stick to the typical comics people would expect. After I found that issues I started asking for different Marvel and DC “boy” comics.
Who do you have absolutely NO respect for and would force-choke on sight?
Honestly I couldn't think of anyone.
If it was changed just to who I would force-choke on sight I would pick Joss Whedon.
I would greet Mr. Joss Whedon with open arms, only to choke him out a few seconds later. How dare he kill Wash (and Shepherd Book) on Firefly, you cruel bastard! Only to years later kill my Agent Coulson!?!!? Why Whedon!? WHY!?!? The choking would only last a few seconds since he did bring Coulson back in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. *pats shiny bald head*
Where can people find out more about you and are you available for Photoshoots (to all those photographers now coming up with ideas after reading this LOL)
